To facilitate company-wide knowledge sharing and social networking, Microsoft has developed and implemented a corporate intranet - MSWeb. The purposes of this system/tool are to: share knowledge and best practices across product groups accelerate productivity and reduce redundancies increase professional and social interaction among groups The company’s product groups and developers use the intranet to share information such as code, testing results, and other data critical for building Microsoft products. Additionally, employees are encouraged to use the internal web to share personal and professional information, and to build the intranet community into an open exchange of interests and ideas. MSWeb currently contains more than 600 personal pages, many of which are devoted to social groups such as the hiking and skiing clubs.
