Track employee survey ratings of rewards and recognition programs
Verizon (formerly GTE Directories)
Verizon employs a variety of tools to evaluate and improve the way it motivates
and recognizes employee performance. The main indicators are the results of
the Employee Opinion Survey (EOS). The survey asks employees the following
questions regarding recognition:
How satisfied are you with the recognition you received for doing a
good job?
How would you rate the overall quality of work done in your work group?

Verizon then tallies the percentage of employees who responded favorably and
plots a multi-year trend diagram with comparative EOS data from other major
companies. Verizon combines the EOS survey data with quarterly exit interview
information and employee turnover reports to detect trends and identify
improvement opportunities.

All this information is analyzed by a cross-functional Recognition
Committee which monitors the company’s recognition programs to ensure that they
meet company and employee needs. The committee meets twice a year to consider
